The Next Big Thing is a chain of book and author recommendations – so far including authors such as Sarah Pinborough, Paul Magrs, Adam Nevill and Angela Slatter.
What happens is an author answers ten questions about their new/next/most recent release before tagging another five authors who have to do the same thing one week later. And we all Facebook and/or tweet about it.
Last week, the one and only GN Braun tagged me. Here we go…
1) What is the working title of your next book?
2) Where did the idea come from for the book?
The idea came from two places, really. First, there were quite a few people who wanted a sequel to my first novel, Echo Falls. They felt there was more to be told in that setting. Second, my husband asked me a question that helped me craft the storyline: “What would happen if two werewolves who were born that way had a child?” That started me on the path to writing Fading Echoes.
3) What genre does your book fall under?
Paranormal romance, definitely. However, I take a little bit of a different track from the first book in that I explore more with technology and biology.
4) What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?
5) What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Charlotte Peterson is a pure-bred werewolf who must battle against the Compass company before it figures out not only what makes a werewolf but how to control werewolves.
6) Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
Self-published. I did consider going small press with it, but I would like print and ebook, which not a lot of places offer (or offer under sales conditions).
7) How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?
Probably about a year. Perhaps more. I had to figure out a lot about the storyline and the characters. As this was my first ‘requested’ novel, I found myself straining a bit more to get things done.
8 ) What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
Definitely the first book, Echo Falls. I hesitate to but would also compare it to Sins of the Flesh and Stronger than Sin, both by Caridad Pineiro. She doesn’t write about werewolves, but the touch of paranormal and science both set within contemporary places is like what I like to do.
9) Who or what inspired you to write this book?
The people I refer to in question number two.
10) What else about the book might pique the reader’s interest?
In Fading Echoes, I explore the genetic side of being a werewolf and what that means for the werewolf community. While I don’t give away the complete story of what makes a werewolf, I do explore the world of finding out what makes werewolves tick…
It’s hard to find authors who haven’t done this! Here are my tags (so far!):
